Heaven is a real popular place; almost everyone wants to go there. Almost all religions believe about heaven. Church people and non-church people talk about heaven, and believe that there is such a place. If heaven is a real place, why are there so many ways to get there?

I talked with two dear ladies several years ago about heaven. After some discussion, they informed me that heaven has many gates and doors, you go your way and we will go ours. In the end we will all meet at the same place. Probably their explanation about how to get to heaven is the most popular and more widely accepted but certainly not scriptural.

Jesus made it very clear that there is only one way to arrive in heaven. John 10:1,9. “Verily, verily, I say unto you. He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold but climbeth up some other way the same is a thief and a robber. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”The world may have their way to heaven, or should I say WAYS. But it is not what anybody believes or thinks - it is what God tells us that counts. John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me.”

Although many believe that there is a heaven, they are confused as how to get there. Many want to believe, but are not really sure what it is all about. Then again, there are so many with different opinions, who can you believe?

What we want to do in this study is to show an in depth view of heaven, and how to get there, and what it is like: as well as to what God expects of us and our accountability for our life as a Christian.

FIRST HEAVEN: Would be the earth’s atmosphere where we live and breathe. This heaven is associated with time, and deals with life, death, and preparation for spiritual life. We have a time to be born, a time to live, and a time to die.

Time is temporary; it had its beginning when God created this world; and will have its ending with God’s destruction of it. Revelation 10:6, “And sware by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer”.

SECOND HEAVEN: The expanse in which the solar system, stars, planets, and galaxies exist, which is known as space. The region or expanse beyond the earth’s atmosphere. I want to take a moment and look at the immensity of space. It is mindboggling to even try to comprehend the distance that space covers. (I guess that’s why they call it space).

Pluto is the farthest planet from the sun. It is approximately 2.8 billion miles at perihelion (when nearest to the sun), and 4.6 billion miles at aphelion (farthest from the sun) in its orbit.

This 4.6 billion miles is just from the sun to Pluto, can you imagine what it must be across our galaxy?

They are finding more and more galaxies every time they do a search of our universe. In fact they have even discovered new Milky Way. They tell us that a light year is the distance that light travels in one year. A light year is approximately 5.88 trillion miles. If you multiply a light year by one hundred times, you would not be able to cross our galaxy. This tells us that if we had a space ship that could travel at the speed of light, and we started at birth, and lived to be one hundred years old, we could not even cross our galaxy. How many galaxies are there out there and how many more might they find? All this space talk and we are still in the second heaven.

THIRD HEAVEN: Or called the heaven of heavens.

Deuteronomy 10:14. “Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the Lords thy God and the earth also with all that therein is.”

1 Kings. 8:27. “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?”

Please read the following scriptures on the heaven of heavens.

2 Chronicles 2:6;

2 Chronicles 6:18;

Nehemiah 9:6;

Psalms l15:16;

2 Corinthians 12:2.

We have talked about the first heaven, our domain. We have looked at the second heaven, which is our solar system. We are in awe at the enormousness of it. But beyond all this is the third heaven, what must this be like? The third heaven is where God lives; it is here where all things began.

John. 1:3, “All things were made by him: and without him was not anything made that was made.”

Hebrews 1:2 “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also he made the worlds.”

It is this heaven that we will be dealing with in this study.

There are those who would lead us to believe, that hell is here on earth: and that heaven is just a supernatural, celestial experience here and now; brought on through some encounter with our subconscious mind. Heaven is a fantasy that people would like to make a reality. Sad to say, they truly believe such nonsense. God affirms that heaven is a real place. Psalms 33:6. “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”Heaven is God’s dwelling place. See - 1 Kings 8:39; 1 Kings 8:45; 1 Kings 8:49 and 2 Chronicles 30:27.

Jesus affirms that heaven is a real place. John 14:2, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so. I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Jesus came from heaven and is gone back to heaven, and now lives in heaven. See - John 3:13; 1 Corinthians 15:47; Acts 1:11; Hebrews 4:14; Hebrews 9:24-28 and 1 Peter 3:22.

The Bible teaches us about heaven. Heaven is mentioned approximately 570 times, Heavens 130 times and Heavenly 23 times.

As you can well see that heaven is not a hidden subject throughout the scriptures. The Old Testament saints, prophetsand authorsbelieved that heaven was a real place. The New Testament saints, apostles, and authors all believed in a literal heaven.

God’s people believe in a real heaven. Those who are already there in soul and spirit; and those of us who are waiting for the rapture or death, whichever comes first. Do you believe in heaven? If not. I trust that you will before you finish this study.

God the Father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit, all live in heaven. Then there are angels, seraphim’s, cherubim’s, living creatures, and spirits of just men made perfect.

See Hebrews 12:22-24.

One day all these men and women, along with all of us who have trusted the Lord as saviour, will have glorified bodies, to serve and rejoice with all of God’s creatures, throughout all eternity.
