Alex Loran is a jazz saxophonist, flautist, vocalist, and composer from Boulder, Colorado. She started learning piano at the age of 4, began taking vocal lessons at the age of 8, and at 10 years old she started to learn the saxophone. Alex has been passionate about music since she started playing. From a very young age she found joy in expressing herself through improvisation and composition.
Alex received her Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies in 2024 from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she studied under Dr John Gunther. Besides jazz, Alex has performed funk, blues, Latin, and pop musics. Recently, she led her 11-piece band at Dazzle in Denver, where the group played a set of her original compositions. She also directed and performed her jazz big band suite, the “New Beginnings Suite”, at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Alex has been fortunate enough to receive a very well-rounded education and has had the privilege to learn from and play with many world-class musicians, including Dave Holland, Nick Smart, Nikki Iles, Brad Goode, and Greg Gisbert. She also had the opportunity to travel to Cuba with the Thompson Jazz Studies program at CU Boulder, where she spent a week learning and performing all styles of Cuban music.
Outside of music, Alex enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends, family, and cat, Theo. Alex is passionate about teaching and ensuring that everyone has access to a quality musical education.
